WUOG Presents: Community DJ Shifts
Hello Athenians and UGA Students,
Beginning this semester WUOG will have a FREE community DJ shift offered on Saturdays, 10pm-12am. This shift will be open to any person of the Athens or UGA student community interested in trying their hand at dj-ing. There will be a total of 14 slots during the semester, and the community DJ for each week will be chosen at random in a lottery-type system. In other words, this is not first-come, first-serve; everyone who applies at any time during the semester has an equal chance of being selected for a shift. If chosen, you will be notified at least a week ahead of time and should reply as soon as possible to confirm that you will show up to the shift. If you do not reply, a runner-up will be chosen to do the shift. You can play ANYTHING you want off of vinyl records, CDs, or an Ipod as long as there are no curse words or lewd sexual references. You can bring music from your own collection or make selections from WUOG's vast vinyl and CD archives. A current WUOG DJ will sit in on the shift to make sure everything runs smoothly and to take care of any technical difficulties. If you are interested in being a WUOG DJ for a night, contact Amanda Perofsky at programming@wuog.org. Put "Community DJ Shift" in the subject line and include your first and last name, phone number, and email address. Include in the email if there are any dates for which you do not want to be eligible.
Dates for community DJ shifts: August 23, 30; September 6, 13, 20, 27; October 4, 11, 18, 25; November 8, 15, 22; Dec. 6

WUOG's Local Music staff presents Athens, Ga Inside-Out
On Wednesday, June 18th at 8:00PM Cine will be screening Athens, Ga Inside-Out, a film about the Athens music scene. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion and live performances with Ort Carlton, Bob and Vanessa Hay, Dexter Romweber, and more special guests.
Athens, Ga Inside-Out Synopsis:
Led by the success of the B-52's and R.E.M., Athens, Georgia was the most happening music scene in the country by the mid 80's. Following several different bands from different genres, this film paints Athens as a magical artistic environment where bands are not in competition, but co-exist in harmony. Live performances of R.E.M.'s "Swan Swan H" and "Dream (All I Have To Do)" at the Lucy Cobb Institute Chapel are included. Also featured are performances from and interviews with R.E.M., the B-52's, Pylon, B-B-Que Killers, Time Toy, Jim Herbert, Flat Duo Jets, Love Tractor, Kilkenny Cats, the Squalls, folk artist Reverend Howard Finster and others.
